Students in Kindergarten, First and Second Grade participate in weekly scheduled book check out during their Computer Specialist time. Classroom teachers will work in collaboration with the Library Media Specialist to create lessons to enrich and extend the learning taking place in the classroom.
Students in grades 3 - 6 are encouraged to visit the library as they need new reading material and to check out our interesting displays and new books. As well as visit with their class during scheduled Computer Specialist time.
We will work with classroom teachers giving library and reference skill lessons when needed.
A detailed schedule showing days and times for each library period is posted.
Students are not charged late fees for books that are not returned on time. Kindergarten does a book exchange. They can take out a new book only when they have returned their book. It is reccommended that the students keep the book in their back packs, so they can return it on the correct day. By January the students will be able to have a total of 2 books out at one time. In the event a child is not happy with his or her book selection they may return it at anytime to exchange it for another book.
In grades 1-6, if a child has two pleasure books out the privilege of taking out books will be suspended until at least one of the books is returned. Books for class projects may be taken out at all times.
Each year the Connecticut Library Association and the Connecticut Educational Media Association sponsor the Nutmeg Children's Book Award. Each year, in February, 10 books of quality fiction are chosen for grades 4-6 and 10 books for grades 6-8. We sponsor the 4-6 program. Children around the state read the books and vote for the favorite one in January.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the BCS Library Media Center.
