BETHANY BOARD OF EDUCATION

BOARD OPERATIONAL GOALS FOR 2012 – 2013

 

1.  Continue the work of the Finance Committee

1.1.   Meet prior to or in advance of each board meeting for review

1.2.   Present an Executive Summary to Board in public session

1.3.   Meet in fall and in March with Board of Finance or as requested

1.4.   Partner with the Superintendent to develop enhanced reporting to the Board of Education that can then be communicated to the Board of Finance and the community

 

2.  Continue to support the development and integration of the Enrichment Program

2.1.  Support the development of an identification process in the lower grades

2.2.  Support the development of programming for identified students in lower grades

2.3.  Support efforts to increase integration of enrichment programs with general curriculum

 

3.  Re-engage Board of Selectman and Board of Finance regarding facility issues

3.1.   Review existing facility improvement plans and consider revising as appropriate

3.2.   Review and analyze current use of the facility, e.g. instructional and support spaces

3.3.   Continue to review and monitor the safety of the Annex buildings

3.4.   Continue to explore possibilities to have fewer students occupy the Annex and Portable classrooms on a full time basis.

3.5.   Identify all significant mechanical and structural elements of the facility that will need replacement, removal or repair with the next ten years

3.6.   Participate as appropriate in the Board of Finance activities related to the development of the long term financial plan for Bethany

 

4.  Continue to review of all current programs and departments within the school

4.1.   Actively engage in the NEASC accreditation process or similar model designed to build a revised vision and mission statement and set of goals for the district

4.2.   Through the superintendent and administration, examine data to determine if programs and departments are meeting their objectives or mandates specifically including science and potential use of the science room

4.3.   Support the Mathematics curriculum restructuring planned for 2011-12

4.4.   Support opportunities for enhancing the existing Science program and for providing enrichment activities in special instructional areas

4.5.   Through the superintendent and administration, determine if additional efficiencies can be achieved in programs and departments

4.6.   Review the new administrative structure

4.7.   Review the Board structure and committees; consider establishing a Technology Committee

4.8.   Identify additional changes that may need to occur, structural, organizational etc.

4.9.   Identify and support financial or human resources needed to implement identified changes

 

5.  Continue to improve communication with BCS community

5.1.   Continue newsletters of a topical and timely nature

5.2.   Schedule three community forums on specific topics

5.3.   Solicit input from a broader segment of the school community

5.4.   Consider development of a Board-Teacher Liaison Committee

 

 

6.  Schedule reports on specific initiatives related to District or Board goals

6.1.   Specific topics to be identified

6.2.   Reports or presentations to occur at regular Board meetings (time limit of 15 minutes)

6.3.   Review Board Operational Goals quarterly

 

7.  Review Superintendent evaluation and compensation structure
